monthly yoga days presents International Yoga Day
Celebrate International Yoga Day with us at the Ashram as we gather in community to honour both new and long-standing teachers, our students, and a living 50-year tradition of yoga practice, philosophy and shared inquiry in Fremantle.Held in our warm and light-filled hall, this special day is an invitation to slow down, reconnect, and experience yoga beyond exercise — as a practice of presence, clarity, wellbeing and meaningful connection.
We are delighted to welcome international yoga teacher Stuart Watkins for the morning session:
Yoga Beyond the Mat - Practice as a Way of Living
Together we will explore a traditional Hatha Yoga practice weaving asana, pranayama, stillness and contemplative teachings that support yoga as a living, embodied tradition for everyday life.
Following practice, Stuart will guide dharma reflections, insights, Q&A and open conversation — creating space not only to practise together, but to explore how yoga can nourish our relationships, inner life and sense of community in the modern world.
After a shared light lunch, faculty teachers Marianne and Irena will lead an afternoon of restorative asana, pranayama and meditation, inviting deeper rest, balance and quiet integration.
Throughout the day, we hope to create an atmosphere that feels welcoming, grounding and alive — a celebration of practice, inquiry and togetherness that has been growing at Beacon Yoga Centre for 50 years.
We would love for you to join us.

International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on June 21 to raise awareness of the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of the practice. Established by the United Nations in 2014, the date was chosen to coincide with the summer solstice, symbolizing the union between humanity and nature.

Stuart Watkins is a Yoga teacher, facilitator, and co-founder of Yoga Heart Mind. For over two decades, Stuart has worked across Yoga, meditation, contemplative practice, and holistic wellbeing — supporting people from many walks of life to cultivate greater presence, vitality, and embodied awareness.
His teaching draws influence from Hatha Yoga, Tantra, Akhanda Yoga, meditation, and contemplative traditions, bridging ancient wisdom with practical approaches to modern life. His work emphasises direct experience, embodied awareness, nervous system health, and Yoga as a lived practice — not simply something we do on the mat, but a way of meeting life itself.
One of Stuart’s deepest influences has been Ram Dass. Stuart spent several years living in Hawaii, where he had the great blessing of spending time immersed in Ram Dass’ community and teachings — experiences that continue to profoundly shape his life and work through an emphasis on presence, compassion, service, humour, and remembering what truly matters.
Stuart facilitates retreats, workshops, trainings, and private sessions throughout Australia and internationally. His teaching is known for blending depth, warmth, accessibility, and grounded practicality.
He lives in Western Australia with his wife Jo and their family.
