Swami Lakshmiananda led our Ashram from its beginning in 1976 for more than 40 years. In these decades she was an exemplary teacher and practitioner of the Integral Yoga of Swami Sivananda. A brilliant editor, she edited many volumes of the talks of her guru,
Swami Venkatesananda (whom she met in 1961). After Venkatesa’s Mahasamadhi in 1982 she went on to compile a number of titles – a brilliant disciple. Peter Deague met ‘Lakshmi’ when he was 14 years old after responding to an advertisement about a Yoga Ashram opening in John St. North Fremantle. He would meet his guru, Swami Venkatesananda, and go on to be part of the first group of ashramites to reside in our Ashram – his dedicated sadhana continues to this day.
